The Manitoba FASD Centre is a multidisciplinary assessment, education, training and research service of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Child Health Program. It provides assessment and diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder in individuals.
The Centre, established in 2009 and located in the Rehabilitation Centre for Children, was formerly the Clinic for Alcohol & Drug Exposed Children (CADEC) which had been operating from Winnipeg Children’s Hospital since 1999. The renamed service reflects an expanded mandate with a significant increase of services.
Assessment
The Centre provides comprehensive diagnostic services using professional clinical personnel to identify individuals with FASD.
Education
The FASD team educates families, caregivers, professionals and others living, supporting and working with individuals with FASD. Additionally, the centre offers
short term follow-up education and support to families following diagnosis.
Training
The FASD Centre provides training in FASD assessment for healthcare professionals working in regional health authorities across Manitoba. The goal is to increase the overall diagnostic capacity throughout the province and makes the service more accessible in rural and northern communities.
Research
The Centre conducts multidisciplinary research that furthers understanding of FASD and supports effective intervention for those caring for and working with affected individuals.

The Centre is funded by Manitoba Health and Healthy Living through the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. In addition, the Centre receives a grant from the Winnipeg Foundation for an FASD art therapy project.
The Centre’s mission is to enhance the lives of individuals affected by exposure to alcohol during pregnancy by:
- Providing multidisciplinary assessment, diagnosis, and follow-up services
- Helping families link with appropriate resources in their community
- Developing strategies to increase knowledge and diagnostic capacities in rural and remote communities.

The Manitoba FASD Centre is located at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children at 633 Wellington Crescent.
The FASD Centre has its own office, meeting and assessment facilities and as well Cente will also use common space at the Rehab Centre for training, teleconferencing, and parent workshops.
The FASD Centre also operates a satellite clinic at the Manitoba Youth Centre, 170 Doncaster to conduct the Youth Justice Program assessments.
